Ranking & Methodology · Part 3

Source & Verification

Where our facts come from, how they are checked, how rankings stay current, and the rules that keep commercial interests away from editorial conclusions.

Our source hierarchy

When sources disagree, the higher tier wins. Every ranking article lists the sources it actually used.

  1. 1. Official and regulatory records

Government registries, filings and licences: Bursa Malaysia filings, SSM records, MOTAC, KKM/MOH registers, certification bodies (JAKIM, SIRIM). Where these speak, they outrank everything below.

  2. 2. Primary data and audited documents

Audited annual reports, official statistics (DOSM, BNM), operator-published figures and current certificates sighted directly.

  3. 3. Direct verification with the entity

What the business, operator or venue confirms to us directly — menus, rates, facilities, capabilities — checked against what it publishes.

  4. 4. Credible third-party coverage

Reporting by reputable Malaysian and international media, and recognised industry rankings — used to corroborate, and for candidate discovery.

  5. 5. Aggregate public feedback

Patterns across public reviews and sentiment. The weakest tier: useful for consistency signals, never sufficient on its own to place or remove an entry.

Verification

  • Facts that decide a ranking position are checked against the highest available tier of source before publication.
  • Claimed certifications and licences are checked against the issuing body's register wherever a public register exists.
  • Each ranking entry carries a verification date. If we cannot re-verify an entry at update time, we flag it or remove it — we do not leave stale claims standing silently.
  • Estimates are labelled as estimates, with their basis stated. An entry whose key figure cannot be sourced is excluded rather than guessed.

Updates

Rankings show both a published date and a last-updated date, and the site distinguishes newly published lists from updated ones. A ranking is updated when its year edition renews, when credible new information changes an assessment, or when a reader correction is upheld. Category methodologies are reviewed at least yearly and carry version histories.

Corrections

If we got something wrong, we want to know. Every ranking links to the correction form; upheld corrections are fixed in the article with the change noted. See our Corrections Policy or request a correction.

Commercial independence

  • Ranking positions are never for sale. No payment, advertising relationship or partnership places an entity on a list or moves it up one.
  • Commercial content is visibly separated from editorial rankings and labelled as such.
  • Where any commercial relationship exists with an entity that appears in a ranking, the article discloses it.
  • Experts and contributors must disclose conflicts of interest; undisclosed conflicts disqualify their input.

See also our Commercial Disclosure and Editorial Policy.

Limitations

  • Rankings are accurate as of their stated dates. Businesses change, prices move, standards drift.
  • No candidate pool is exhaustive; Malaysia is bigger than any research team.
  • Editorial rankings involve structured judgement, disclosed rather than hidden.
  • Nothing on this site is medical, legal, financial or investment advice.
