Editorial Policy
How Malaysia's Top Ten researches, writes, fact-checks and corrects its rankings — our standards for accuracy, sourcing and the use of AI.

Our purpose
Malaysia's Top Ten publishes researched, structured Top Ten rankings about Malaysia — the places Malaysians eat, travel and stay, the services they use, and the companies and industries that drive the economy. Our goal is to be a reference Malaysians can trust and cite.
Editorial independence
- Ranking positions are never for sale. No advertiser, partner or sponsor can buy a place on a list, a higher position, or removal of a competitor.
- Editorial decisions are made by the editorial team applying the published methodology — not by commercial staff, advertisers or ranked businesses.
- Businesses that claim a profile or communicate with us gain no editorial advantage. Claiming a profile allows factual updates to be proposed; it never grants editing rights over rankings or editorial conclusions.
Accuracy and verification
- Every ranking is built inside our published framework: a category methodology plus an article-specific methodology stating the candidate pool, criteria, data period and sources for that list. See Ranking & Methodology.
- Facts that decide ranking positions are checked against our source hierarchy — official records first, aggregate public opinion last.
- Entries carry verification dates. Where something could not be fully verified, we say so rather than imply certainty.
Fairness
- Every candidate in a ranking is assessed against the same criteria. We do not apply different standards to different businesses.
- Rankings compare within a stated class where that matters — a hawker stall is not judged against a fine-dining restaurant, a 3-star hotel is not judged against a luxury resort, unless the list's question demands it.
- We do not accept payment, gifts or hosted arrangements in exchange for coverage. Where a hosted visit or provided experience informed an assessment, the article discloses it.
Authors, reviewers and experts
- Ranking articles carry a named author and, where applicable, a named reviewer.
- External experts who contribute to a ranking are named, their credentials stated, and any relationship with a ranked entity disclosed. Undisclosed conflicts disqualify their input.
Use of AI
We use AI tools to assist with research, drafting and data organisation. AI assistance does not change our standards: a human editor is responsible for every published ranking, facts that decide positions are verified against the sources our methodology requires, and our disclosure obligations apply in full. We do not publish automated rankings that no human has reviewed.
What our content is — and is not
- Rankings are editorial content: researched information and, for editorial rankings, disclosed professional judgement.
- Nothing we publish is medical, legal, financial or investment advice. For health decisions consult a registered practitioner; for financial decisions consult a licensed adviser.
Updates and corrections
Rankings show published and last-updated dates and are re-checked on the cycles described in each category methodology. Errors are handled under our Corrections Policy — if we got something wrong, we fix it and say so.
