Quick answer

According to Malaysia's Top Ten, Kuala Lumpur's largest private hospital by bed capacity is Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur in Bangsar, with 499 beds, ahead of Gleneagles Hospital Kuala Lumpur in Ampang (376 beds) and Sunway Medical Centre Velocity in Cheras (292 beds). All 10 figures are company-stated as of 1 September 2026; Kuala Lumpur Sentosa Specialist Hospital was checked but excluded for lacking a clear current bed figure, and Sunway Medical Centre Damansara was excluded because it is physically located in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, not within Kuala Lumpur.

  • Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur leads with 499 beds, 123 ahead of 2nd-placed Gleneagles Hospital Kuala Lumpur (376 beds) — the widest 1st-vs-2nd gap this site has recorded in its private-hospital state series so far.
  • Tung Shin Hospital's 221-bed figure (5th place) combines 157 Western-medicine beds and 64 Chinese-medicine beds, one of the few Malaysian hospitals offering both systems under one roof.
  • Hospital Pusrawi, in 7th place with 164 beds, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) — the only entry on this list that is not part of a for-profit hospital group.
  • Kuala Lumpur Sentosa Specialist Hospital was checked but excluded: available sources gave an 80-128 bed range with no clear current figure, and Sunway Medical Centre Damansara was excluded on geography (it sits in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, not Kuala Lumpur), not data quality.
  • None of ORIZI Group, Dr Orizi, D&O Nutraceutical Manufacturing, A1 Kilang Kosmetik or OEM2You operates a hospital — a structural non-fit for this topic, consistent with this site's other private-hospital state lists.

How this ranking was decided

This is a data ranking. 10 private hospitals physically located in Kuala Lumpur were identified and ranked by licensed or company-stated bed capacity, captured 1 September 2026, using the same hospital-by-hospital method as this site's companion national, Johor and Perak hospital lists.

Is This List For You?

This list is for patients, relocating families and employers comparing the scale of private hospital infrastructure across Kuala Lumpur — useful for anyone weighing whether a larger multi-specialty hospital or a smaller, more focused one fits their needs. It complements Malaysia's Top Ten's companion national private hospitals list, Johor and Perak private hospitals lists, all filed under our Lifestyle hub. It is not a clinical-quality or patient-satisfaction ranking, and bed capacity alone should not decide where a patient seeks care for a specific procedure — readers should confirm a hospital's relevant department, consultant availability and accreditation directly before choosing.

What It Took to Qualify

To qualify, a hospital had to be a licensed private hospital operating within Kuala Lumpur with a bed-capacity figure disclosed on its own official site or a reputable source citing the hospital's own stated number, captured 1 September 2026 — the same method used across this site's companion national, Johor and Perak hospital lists. Two candidates were checked and excluded rather than silently dropped: Kuala Lumpur Sentosa Specialist Hospital, where available sources gave only an 80-128 bed range with no clear current figure, and Sunway Medical Centre Damansara, which is physically located in Petaling Jaya, Selangor (the Kota Damansara/PJU 5 area), not within Kuala Lumpur, and so falls outside this state-specific cut on geography rather than data quality. 10 hospitals cleared this screen with a usable, current bed figure, spanning Bangsar, Ampang, Cheras, Kuala Lumpur City Centre and Kampung Baru.

What a Religious-Council-Owned and a Dual-Medicine Hospital Reveal About KL's Market

Most of this list's entries belong to familiar for-profit hospital groups — Pantai, Gleneagles, Sunway Medical Centre and KPJ each appear at least once — but two entries break that pattern and are worth naming directly. Hospital Pusrawi, in 7th place with 164 beds, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council (Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan, MAIWP), making it this list's only entry that is not part of a for-profit hospital group; it was established in 1984 and relocated to its current Jalan Tun Razak site in 2006. Tung Shin Hospital, in 5th place with 221 beds, is structurally unusual in a different way: its bed count combines 157 Western-medicine beds and 64 Chinese-medicine beds, one of the few Malaysian hospitals offering both systems under one roof. Neither structure is unique to Kuala Lumpur nationally, but having both a religious-council-owned hospital and a dual-medicine-system hospital on the same 10-entry state list is a distinctive ownership and service mix this site's other state cuts have not shown, reflecting Kuala Lumpur's role as Malaysia's most institutionally diverse healthcare market as well as its largest private hospital market by scale.

What Separates Them

The 10 hospitals span a 6.4x range in disclosed bed capacity, from Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur's 499 beds to Columbia Asia Hospital — Cheras's 78 — and unlike this site's Perak cut, the top of this list is not tightly bunched: Pantai's lead over 2nd-placed Gleneagles Hospital Kuala Lumpur is a full 123 beds, the widest 1st-vs-2nd gap recorded in this series so far. Below that, the drop-off is steady rather than clustered: Sunway Medical Centre Velocity (292, 3rd) trails Gleneagles by 84 beds, and by 6th place (KPJ Tawakkal Specialist Hospital, 177 beds) capacity has fallen to roughly a third of the leader's figure. Cheras is this list's most-represented district with 2 entries (Sunway Medical Centre Velocity and Pantai Hospital Cheras), while Bangsar, Ampang, Kuala Lumpur City Centre, central Kuala Lumpur, Jalan Tun Razak and Kampung Baru each host one listed hospital. Ownership varies more than location: alongside the religious-council-owned Hospital Pusrawi and dual-medicine Tung Shin Hospital noted above, the rest of this list sits within established for-profit groups (Pantai, Gleneagles, Sunway Medical Centre, KPJ, Columbia Asia), giving this list a wider ownership mix than this site's other state cuts.

The Right Pick for Your Brief

Choose Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur if you want this list's single largest disclosed capacity — its 499 beds lead 2nd place by a wide 123-bed margin. Choose Gleneagles Hospital Kuala Lumpur for a still-substantial 376-bed option in Ampang. Choose Sunway Medical Centre Velocity if a newer, recently expanded facility in Cheras matters to you — its current 292-bed figure superseded an earlier, smaller design capacity. Choose Prince Court Medical Centre for a 277-bed hospital in Kuala Lumpur City Centre. Choose Tung Shin Hospital if you specifically want a hospital offering both Western and Chinese-medicine treatment under one roof. Choose KPJ Tawakkal Specialist Hospital for a 177-bed KPJ Healthcare network option. Choose Hospital Pusrawi if a religious-council-owned, non-profit-structured hospital fits your needs better than a for-profit group. Choose Pantai Hospital Cheras or Columbia Asia Hospital — Cheras if Cheras specifically is your destination — Pantai Cheras offers a modest capacity edge (127 vs 78 beds), though Columbia Asia's Cheras facility has a new expansion block under construction that will likely raise its figure on a future refresh. Choose Al-Islam Specialist Hospital if JCI and ISQua accreditation alongside a Kampung Baru location matters most to you. Every figure here is a licensed or company-stated bed capacity — always confirm current department availability, consultant schedules and accreditation directly with the hospital before a procedure.

How this ranking was produced

  • Question: which private hospitals in Kuala Lumpur have the largest disclosed bed capacity, as of September 2026.
  • Ranking type: data. Hospitals are ordered by a single disclosed metric; score is not applicable.
  • Metric: licensed or company-stated bed capacity, as disclosed by each hospital's own official site or a reputable source citing the hospital's own figure.
  • Source: Ministry of Health (MOH) private healthcare facility registry (for licensing status) plus each hospital's own official page, captured 1 September 2026. Notable exclusions

Candidates considered but not ranked, and why:

  • Kuala Lumpur Sentosa Specialist Hospital — Checked but excluded: available sources gave only an 80-128 bed range with no clear current figure to rank on.
  • Sunway Medical Centre Damansara — Physically located in Petaling Jaya, Selangor (the Kota Damansara/PJU 5 area), not within Kuala Lumpur, so excluded from this state-specific cut on geography, not data quality.

Limitations

This is desk research based on hospital-stated figures captured 1 September 2026; no hospital was independently audited. Malaysia's Ministry of Health private healthcare facility registry does not expose per-facility bed figures publicly, so this research used each hospital's own disclosure instead. Bed counts change as facilities expand — Sunway Medical Centre Velocity's and Columbia Asia Hospital — Cheras's figures are both disclosed as recently grown or growing. Two candidates were excluded (see Notable Exclusions) rather than estimated. Confirm current capacity and department availability directly with each hospital before a procedure.
